Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side just seven months following leading derogatory songs directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road concluded amicably this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities this spring. Currently, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as the Bladesâ manager looks to rescue the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Previous History Between the Striker and Wilder
The pair had a past prior to Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Moving Forward
Everything seems to have been resolved with United, the Championshipâs least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Wilder stated back then: âHad a conversation with Pat recently and I have no problem at all with it. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
âWe spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Patrick.â
Recent Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
