The Details Known Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 individuals perished and in excess of 40 were wounded when assailants fired on a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian authorities have called a act of terrorism.

Described as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.

She recounted the events leading up to the attack, stating they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Officially, a senior official declared that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must combat,” the statement continued.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was among those killed during the attack, as per reports referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospitals, many are still under care, with a number in serious condition. Those hurt comprise two police officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the gunmen. Described as a local hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Reports indicate he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He described he heard “a large number” of shots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
